Okay. Hi, my name’s Aine McEvoy. (That’s “Aine” as in “Anya” [Ahwn-yah]. The Irish spell things weird.) I’m a fourth year college student at [Insert Catholic School Name Here] University in Chicago. I like reading, knitting scarves, (binge) watching movies and TV shows, writing stories that I eventually plan to turn into published books and screenplays, and web surfing whatever catches my eye or things for book research. When I’m not at school, I live in New England with my mom, my dad, my dog Sasha. and my little sister August.
I am a geek. I like movies, television, anime, animation, and am finally getting into video games and comics (Mainly because I finally have the money to pay for them…sort of).
I’m a member of many fandoms, such as Doctor Who, Star Trek, Sherlock Holmes, Hannibal Lecter, anime/manga, Firefly, Welcome to Night Vale, Harry Potter, Marvel Cinematic Universe (and Marvel in general), Batman (And the DCAU, Teen Titans, and the live action DC shows after The Dark Knight), Animation (mostly shows from the 80s, 90s, and early 2000s as well as things from later like Avatar, Korra, and Over the Garden Wall, also Disney and Pixar among others), and James Bond, among other things.
I’m a fan of science fiction, fantasy, thrillers, mysteries, and certain horrors (not slasher or paranormal stuff, I don’t get enough sleep as it is). I attend Chicago based conventions such as Anime Central and C2E2 yearly, and one of my big dreams is to attend San Diego Comic Con….and go into space, but that’s a whole different thing I’m not going into here.
…Yeah, I’m a geek. I’m also a girl. We’re real. Quit staring.
I’m not just a geek though, I’m also a casual fan of baseball (Go Red Sox! Go Cubbies!). I like listening to classical music in addition to J-Rock, show tunes, and Film/ TV scores. I love seafood and citrus sodas. …Um, I understand enough of it to enjoy a game of cricket when I see one. I like swimming and bike riding. …I’m sure there’s more, but that’s all I got right now.
I live in America…it’s okay I guess. Could use less murder and more progression in equal rights (non discrimination laws and such), but I’ve heard of worse places.
I could be living in the world from Battlefield Earth. And wouldn’t that just be horrendous?
What little I’ve experienced of Canada and the UK makes me love those countries. Hell, I just love British culture in general, same with Japan. The longest I’ve spent in another country was the 3 months I spent in London last fall, which was awesome and has made me seriously consider moving there one day. For now though, I think I’ll stick with trying to find an apartment in Chicago.
What do I do for a living? Well, currently I’m a paid summer Marketing PR Intern at my mom’s academic publishing company. I’m gonna get a part time job when I get back to school and I’d like to be an author one day…now I just need to finish something I’ve written. For now, it looks like I’ll be sticking with blogs I guess.
So, what’s gonna be on this blog? Pretty much whatever I feel like. Preference will be given to reviews of movies, TV shows, books, comics, games, etc., but I will write about other things. You know, things I care about, like Hannibal’s cancellation or diversity in superhero films…we’ll get to both, and stuff. I’ll try to keep away from politics as much as possible because, as much as I’m a supporter for equal rights, politics are not that interesting to me. If I have thoughts on the matter, I’ll talk about what I think, but don’t expect it. For the most part, this will be about geek stuff.
You can contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org if you have any questions or suggestions for blog post. Or if you just want to recommend me something. I like recommendations.
I’m looking forward to sharing my thoughts with you.
